    can I write another program that will run on my ospi and send me an email when the garage door is open VIA a sensor connected to GPIO pins on the PI?

    or is GPIO a single program (sprinklers.py) only?

    You just have to make sure, you don’t use the same pins;-) I’m using a separate Python program to handle the little relay for our light.
