Hey,
Just ordered ospi yesterday, but I couldn’t use the offered transformer since it requires 110v input, while in EU we have 230. So I thought I would buy one in a local electronics shop or ebay.
It appears that I have been too optimistic 🙂 Electronics shops don’t have them and there is one seller on ebay.de which has them, but apparently doesn’t ship to my country.
So… I am sure I’m not the only one with this issue. What is the best place to buy a 24VAC transformer in EU?

This one is available in a range of watt ratings. Depending on the number of stations you want to use at same time you might have to choose one with more or less power.thank you for the link.
I was hoping to get one pluggable into the wall outlet like they sell on this site. Are such options available in EU?
Where do you get your 24VAC sprinkler valves? Won’t the supplies of the valves provide matching transformer?
I had same issue, the seller from where I bought the RainBird system didn’t have transformers, I checked other sellers of other irrigation systems and I could find from Orbit the cheapest but it was still around 30-50$.
I bought an used one from Hozelock brand, wall outlet “pluggable”, which is a brand for residential garden and pools systems and paid about 20$.I wonder why its so difficult to get in Europe. Do European systems normally use different voltage?
The guy from ebay eventually responded and decided to ship to my country, but honestly this looks like the only place to get a wall outlet transformer in EU, which is kinda weird 🙂

Ray has right, the best is to buy in the same shop where you buy all sprinklers.
Or if your are living in France I can give you some web sites to buy a transformer with Voltage/current … and the correct main power plug for your country.I guess another choice is to get 110V to 24V AC transformer (which is the type we sell), and then use a 220V to 110V step-down adapter which may be easier to source.
Ray you are pretty much right, I thought to that when I ordered mine, the problem is that 110V to 24V AC transformer weights at least twice as much as the controller itself and could easily double the price of shipping from US to EU. This was my reason not to go that route.
If you have a doorbell in your house, then it is possible you already have a 220V/24V trafo in in your electricity pannel.
My OS is located next to it so I have no need for seperate extra trafo.Of course you need to be able to place your OS nearby.
But take care about a transformer used for a doorbell or such devices like door lock.
Some high interferences can be send to the transformer, and also the opensprinkler board.
Sometimes it’s best to have a independent transformer to avoid interferences between different sources.A quick update of on-going development: I have been working on an experimental version of DC-powered OpenSprinkler. It’s powered by 9V DC power supply which is easier to source world-wide. Although this is 9VDC powered, it’s still meant for 24 VAC sprinkler valves. Technically this is based on my research of 24 VAC sprinkler valves in this blog post (http://rayshobby.net/understanding-24vac-sprinkler-valves/). Long story short, the controller uses a boost converter to bump 9VDC up to 24VAC in order to energize the valves initially, then drops the voltage down to 9VDC to supply the required current by the sprinkler valves. We’ve done some initial tests and it seems to work well. Some advantages of DC powered OpenSprinkler include: 1) power supply is lighter and easier to source; 2) the same controller can work with both 24VAC valves and DC valves (like 12VDC or 24VDC valves); 3) a DC circuit also makes it easy to do current sensing and detect shorted solenoids.
We will be releasing an experimental batch of the DC controller soon, hopefully within a week or two.

I cannot see any reference the AC or DC I assume however it’s AC as it says it suitable for most 24V sprinkler systems.

Other places to look for are security camera stores — classic security cameras use 24V AC power supply. Also, many HVAC systems, and even door bell circuit sometimes use 24V AC.
Received the transformer from rs-online a few days ago.
