    Hello,

I am trying to get my OS working again. It is HW version 3.2 AC, App version 2.4.97 and FW version 2.1.9 (9). I am on ethernet. The only option I see for updating the firmware is on the right where it says “Update Firmware”. Clicking on this opens a new window and prints out “{“result”:16}”. Nothing seems to happen and the device is unchanged. I can download the bin file for the FW update, but I see no way to pass this along to the device.

    Thanks for any pointers.

Are you connecting to the controller via the OTC token? Firmware update currently can only be performed locally when you access the controller via its IP address.

The complete firmware update instructions are here:

I am logged directly into the device via the IP address via the HTML interface.

Well, I just tried again and this time I receive a different result in the pop-up window and it allows me to upload the file I downloaded! This was several restarts later.

    However, it says “Update failed”.

Bummer. I uploaded ‘os_221_rev5.bin’. Should I do something different? Seems it should have worked according to the instructions. Thanks

I think that I may have figured out why this is not updating and I want to be certain before I take apart the device.

I have an ethernet module. Do I really have to remove the module from the board to do the update with the firmware via Wifi, even if there is no ethernet connection? In other words, just removing the ethernet cable and forcing wifi mode is insufficient to allow a firmware update when running firmware version 2.1.9?

    Thank you for clarification.

    Firmware update instructions:
    https://opensprinkler.github.io/OpenSprinkler-Firmware/firmware-update/
Troubleshooting -> Update via Wired Ethernet -> “If it runs 2.1.9 or earlier, update must be done in WiFi mode:”

Updating firmware in WiFi never requires Internet – you only need Internet to download the firmware file, once it’s downloaded onto your computer, the update works with or without Internet.

The only issue is if you have never configured OpenSprinkler to log onto your WiFi network, it will boot into WiFi AP mode. You can update firmware in AP mode, by following the instructions. Or, if you do have a WiFi router, you can configure the controller to log onto your WiFi router, then update firmware in WiFi station mode.

I have downloaded the .bin file and am trying to upload it to the device via the WiFi network that it is connected to. This is repeatedly failing. I will try to update it in AP mode this time and see if it is different.

What I wasn’t clear on was whether or not I need to physically remove the ethernet adaptor from the board for this to update.

    Thanks, Aric
