VinceParticipantHelp!
I purchased a DIY Opensprinkler about 2 months ago so I suspect I have hardware version 1.4. Software version is 2.0.3 according to page that shows up when I log on. Runs great.
Want to use mobile app for iPhone which requires version 2.0.4 so I am trying to update firmware.
Trying with PC laptop running XP. Downloaded update app, it opens ok. Try to connect to Opensprinkler hardware but my PC never tells me there is a new USB device connected so I can’t point to the driver to load. Tried to do it by simply plugging in the USB cable – no luck. Tried it by pressing B2 while inserting the USB cable then letting go within 2 seconds – still no joy. What next?
Also have MacBook running OS X 10.9.3. Downloaded Mac App and ran – told me I needed Java. Installed Java. Re-ran app and now tells me the app is corrupt and will not install. Downloaded app again with same results.
I don’t have a linux box – yet!
Can’s seem to get there from here. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

RayKeymasterIf you purchased 2 months ago you should have version 2.1u. Especially since you have firmware 2.0.3 — only hardware 2.x runs firmware 2.x.x, the earlier 1.4 cannot run firmware 2.x.x. If you are not sure, you can open the enclosure and the version number is printed on the PCB.
Anyways, I assume you have 2.1u. To enter bootloader, unplug USB, then press and hold B2 while plugging in USB, and release within 1-2 seconds. Note that the screen should remain off — if the screen lights up, it didn’t enter bootloader successfully and you should try again. On Mac you don’t need to install driver. The device manager should show a USBasp device. If it still doesn’t work, you might want to check if the USB connector is soldered correctly (i.e. no solder bridges etc.).

VinceParticipantThank you for the reply.
I did find my problem and got successfully updated. Seems I did not turn the device off/ disconnect the power before connecting the usb….. Once I figured that out, it worked correctly. amazing;-)
The mac solution may not be so simple. Searching the web came up with a bit that one would need to change user privileges together a non certified program to run. I haven’t sorted it all out so I jay be misspeaking there
Thanks again

RayKeymasterFor Mac, you need to temporarily disable the security check: go to System Preference -> Security and Privacy -> click the Lock to Unlock, then choose ‘Allow Apps Download from: Anywhere’. You only need to do this once, I think, for each program. Next time you shouldn’t need to do this again.
