    Hi there

I’m building a customised variation of the opensprinkler hardware for a Raspberry PI.  On the various schematics there is a transistor that drives the relay output, with a part number of 2N7002.  On the schematic the symbol used is for a standard NPN transistor, yet the specifications for a 2N7002 is for a N-Channel Enhancement Mode Field Effect Transistor.  Using a standard transistor is more common practice and I was going to substitute a suitable model in, but I thought I’d check to see if there was a specific reason a FET was specified?

    Thanks

    Richard

Both NPN transistors and N-channel MOSFETs are fine. They work similarly.
