    Hello,

I have read many posts about all of the different options and I am looking for a few more details.

    – They all appear to use the same firmware now, correct? Does this mean they all have the same base functionality?

    – According to this blog post it sounds like the “regular version” can’t support cloud functionality, but I assume this isn’t the case for the Pi version?

    – I see a few mentions of plugins. Are those only available for the Pi version?

    – The instructions for getting the Pi version up and running seem pretty straight forward. Is there anything else that I would need to worry about? I have seen a few references to worries about security.

    Thanks.

First, in case you haven’t seen this, the table here compares OS/OSPi/OSBo:
    https://opensprinkler.com/faq/#technical

    – You are right that all of them run the same firmware, the OpenSprinkler Unified Firmware.
    – To make them all compatible, if we release cloud support, it will also be available on all three products.
    – The plugins are only available for OSPi/OSBo by running Dan’s Python-based Firmware. It is not part of the Unified Firmware.

We only recommend OSPi for users who have experience with RPi and have knowledge about Linux. The reason is that unlike OS, OSPi is not a fully assembled product — you will need to provide RPi and burn SD card yourself. No matter how easy the set up process is, you will eventually encounter something that requires technical skills. So if you have no experience with RPi or Linux in general, we would recommend OS instead.

Does this mean plugins for Micasavera Vera won’t work with Unified Firmware?

@jchiar No, it does not. The plugin is not for OpenSprinkler but for the Micasavera. In fact, the plugin is specifically for the Unified firmware.

Thats what I meant. I have an OSPi and VERA 3. I install unified firmware on the Pi and it can’t communicate with the Opensprinker.

How can i tell what firmware version i have installed on my open sprinkler?

The plugin is maintained by a third party on the Vera forums. Therefore we cannot guarantee the plugin will work correctly.

You can find the firmware version in the about page in the app/UI. This can be accessed from the left side panel (swipe or top left button on the home page).

Thank you for all the info. I will also check out the plugin to tie it into my vera.
