I’ve put seven of these units in various residential and commercial applications now. One feature I’d love to have is the ability for the unit to push a notification to a service like Pushover which could then notify my phone of an event. Specifically I’d like to know when a program has been halted due to the rain sensor mainly for troubleshooting. I’ve had bad luck with rain sensors in the past and it would be nice to not have to login to each unit to find out if the programs are set to run or did run the previous day. The logs are helpful but something more proactive would be better.
I saw one request for Pushover a few years ago I in the archives but thought I’d resurrect the idea to see if it had any merit for others.

Admittedly I was not aware of that so thanks for posting. It’s a bit beyond my time/skills right now to dedicate a Raspberry Pi to monitoring this but at least it can be done. While I’ve not dug into the API am I correct that this would not alert me if the rain sensor was triggered and therefore the system was in a non-watering state?
The current API provides a way to query the OS to get info. At this time, there needs to be another system involved that does the query and turns that info into whatever kind of unsolicited notification is desired. Given the current size of OS, I’ll guess that providing a general mechanism locally in the OS is unlikely but maybe they have plans to provide this capability via their cloud.
