    Hi,

I would like to make an Opensprinkler irrigation system in my garden. My main concern is that it will be quite difficult to bring power up to the system. So I was considering powering it with solar panels. But, affordable systems are 12V DC only.

By looking at Rain Bird valves, they have 24V AC models, and 9V DC. The latter would be perfect for a solar powered system, but, if I understand right, these are latch systems. Which means, that if power is lost for any reason when watering is ongoing, the valve will never stop. Should this happen during holidays, I’m in trouble…

Do you have recommendation on good quality valves which could run on 12V DC or lower, and are normally closed when power is lost?

    Thanks!

Use the Opensprinkler DC model, it is DC but will power your 24V AC devices.
