    I just installed OpenSprinkler 2.3 DC. I am on the web portal and set the number of minutes to 1 and clicked on Submit. However, nothing is happening. I switched out the old sprinkler which was working. On the old sprinkler the white cable was on COM which I connected to COM on the OpenSprinkler. Then I hooked up all the zones (only 4). The rain port I left empty (do I need to short it? The manual didn’t say anything about that). I had a 12V/2A DC PSU which I connected to the DC input. The Ethernet port is connected to one of my switches (obviously I can access it as I am on the portal). I don’t see any error messages anywhere so I am not sure why it doesn’t turn on.

    What kind of solenoid do you have? Brand name and model number please?

    I took a picture of the top. It says Rain Bird 075 ASVF 3/4″ 150 PSI MAX. STD 1001. I am not sure if this is helpful but the original controller is an Orbit 4 Station Easy Dial, 57594, 046878575943

    OK, this looks fine, it seems standard 24VAC sprinkler valve and should work well with DC-powered OpenSprinkler. Regarding the sensor port: you don’t need to short the sensor port on OpenSprinkler — the sensor on OpenSprinkler is configurable in software. So if you haven’t selected any sensor in software, it won’t read the sensor terminal at all.

    Just to make sure the wiring is correct, here is what I recommend you do:
    remove power from OpenSprinkler, then use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the COM (common) terminal (there are two COM ports, you can use either since they are internally wired together) and each individual zone wire. The resistance should be around 20 to 50 ohm. If it’s too small or too large, that indicates a problem with either the wiring or the solenoid.

    Did your OpenSprinkler 2.3 come with a 7.5VDC power adapter? If so, I recommend using that, before using your 12VDC power adapter. 7.5VDC provides ideal holding current (about 250mA according to your valve’s spec). Using 12VDC generates more holding current than necessary, which is fine but it’s less power efficient.

    I am measuring a consistent 45 Ohm between the COM port and each of the 4 zones. My OpenSprinkler did not come with a power adapter so I use my own 12VDC/2A adapter. The 2A should be plenty if those valves only pull 250mA. So I am not sure why this isn’t working…

    Ok, I got it. I tried to do it directly on the OpenSprinkler by long pressing B3 (or is it E3), short pressing B3 and then long pressing B3. That should have started the 1 minute test program. But as soon as I did the second long press on B3 the unit would reboot. I ended up trying another power adapter (12V/1.5A) and now it works just fine. I then tried the web portal and that worked as well. It shows a current of about 245mA. Since I only run one zone at a time that 1.5A adapter should be fine.

    OK, so it sounds like your previous adapter just wasn’t able to supply sufficient current, and your new adapter seems to work fine.
