    Hi,

    I’m new with Opensprinkler latch.
I just installed it and I’m very happy with it.
But I’m facing a problematic situation.

Latch valves are activating or desactivating with one impulse from opensprinkler unit and not with a permanent current.

So, if opensprinkler is bugging or has power outage during a program, valves will stay open until to the next restart of opensprinkler and until to a new run of one program.

    It is very problematic.
What is the solution to secure the installation ?

I checked manual but I don’t see any evident solution. UPS could be, but not totally if power outage is very long and UPS goes down too.

Thanks for your help and advice.

On latch version it could be interesting to send close signal on all valves when unit starts.

    regards
    Chris

If you have frequent power outages, and long power breaks, you need a battery backup like UPS or even just a USB power bank. Or quite frankly, maybe consider using 24VAC valves since those valves don’t have the issue of staying open indefinitely.

It’s pretty easy to modify the firmware to send close signals to all valves. I didn’t add that because it will take some 15 to 30 seconds on each reboot due to closing all valves. I am not sure if users would like that.

I don’t understand. My last post is hidden from topic ??

    I repost here:

    Hi Ray,

    Thanks for your quick answer.
Yes you’re right. But I modernized old installation with rainbird controller and latch valves. I didn’t realized this problem.

The most likely risk is that the electrical system will trip. This sometimes happens with the pump.
If I install a UPS that’s too weak and I’m gone for several weeks, the UPS could drain, and the OpenSprinkler could shut down during a program that’s running. The risk isn’t zero.

If I had known, I would have changed the valves. Now, I need to change valves + opensprinkler AC 🙁

Maybe you could add an optional configuration parameter to allow users to choose the best configuration to their use ? 🙂 For example: “Turn off all enabled stations (latch) at startup (Function takes times)”

Yes, that can be easily added, and quite frankly, it’s something a user can modify on their own. We provide all the source code, you can ask ChatGPT to modify the code for you. The whole point of this project made open-source is to give users the freendom to make any change they want. Something like ‘turn off all stations at startup’ is literally one line of code.

OK I will check that and report if I found a good solution.
    thanks
