Two days ago, my unit failed randomly and would no longer power on at all. I pulled the pi and was able to boot it fine external of the open sprinkler, so I tried a different power supply with no success. After opening it up, there was a pretty obvious burnt component on the motherboard. So, I’m guessing that is the culprit.

I can buy a new unit, but I’m a little concerned as to why it would fail like this after less than two years of use. Is there something I could have done to prevent this? Or is this just a bad luck component that failed on the board?

    Any thoughts?
