Pi 3B+. Was running successfully for about 4 years. This year, all seemed to be working fine, but no sprinkler solenoids were being activated. After chasing a lot of possible hardware issues (I’ve fried triacs before), I swapped Pis. The “new” pi worked – same sim card, same everything except the MAC address.

It isn’t a complete Pi failire – the old Pi runs the full desktop without issues, so far. I’ve not yet tried to test the GPIO pins.

Suggestions on the root cause? Also, which GPIO pin/s does OpenSprinkler use?

    Thanks –

If OSPi works with another RPi, then most likely OSPi is fine. As you said, probably it has to do with GPIOs on the other RPi. GPIO pin assignments are documented in the OSPi user manual:

Thanks, Ray. I especially appreciate the link – my bookmarks are sadly scrambled and need of housekeeping.

I’ll dig up a GPIO test program on the web and see if I can identify just what’s not working on the suspect Pi.

Side note – are there any precautions – other than static protection – to protect this? I have replaced a sprinkler board due to a very well smoked triac…
