AndreasSprinkParticipantHello,
I have a question about “Hunter Soil-Clik Soil Moisture Sensor” which seems to be of “dry contact type”.
1. Should this one work with the Open sprinkler controller? (Only the moisture sensor in the picture)
https://www.amazon.com/Hunter-Soil-Clik-Soil-Moisture-Sensor/dp/B00L6266Y02. Does this one work with open sprinkler or is it to cheap and not recommended?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/254897664335?hash=item3b5915b14f:g:P2EAAOSwN5RcrdPU&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8AsfJHIqLUYPfijQ2L962mCVA59CJ5cjoqRngjlwbstOdSTJc5VI6zCL%2F5O1b5smj%2BgRj1oYIOMV8Lf8oVWjJZwfnqXCTHBvLZom3DqNvMr8EAATOkKpN%2FWL6aTaESfvEFdt42Z7S9ITR5cEfSoRjXJ72hoDkk8EwNFHh1TZH4fl%2FAXR2IXojHws3MEpMjkuCJ69P3c%2F49Vctqos8U4xby4t5IMRG%2F82s4rNm6lT6LP6OLZPiJZh%2FHC8einhm%2FFRWszK8q%2FIKG3VdmrLfxlBZq8UpB2DL4MS68EAMUE6KkDxA3MWI3gq0oWC3Pn3wqQ6fQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR47-mpOHYg2. Then I would bury the sensor in the soil and connect it to the sensor input on the controller, this I have understand.
But how to program this in the controller. I have a watering Program 1 that starts 1.30 each night. Let say that I don’t
want the “Program 1” to water if the threshold is above a certain level. Because now the program starts blindly 1.30 each
night. Is is possible for the “Program 1” to do a controlcheck if the moisture leven is above a certain threshold before
starting the “Program 1” to not water, or how to do that?Thank you!

RayKeymaster1. yes, it should work with OpenSprinkler. The output of this soil clik sensor is a relay which is a dry contact type.
2. no, this soil sensor is not a dry contact type, it requires an additional microcontroller to ‘interpret’ the result of the soil moisture value. It cannot be used directly with OpenSprinkler.
3. please read the OpenSprinkler user manual to understand how sensors work with the controller. Soil sensor and rain sensor work in the same way — when a program is scheduled to run, it checks the sensor value and if it’s activated then the program will not run. More specifically, zones that are set to be affected by sensor will not run if the sensor is activated.May 21, 2023 at 7:35 pm #75748
AndreasSprinkParticipantThank you Ray, that is great. I will go ahead and test the Hunter Soil Click Soil Moisture Sensor. It will be an interesting project to do.
Then I understand, I will look in the manual and figure that out. It sounds very good.
Thank you for your help!
