When my sprinkler valves shut off, back emf frequently adversely affects my microcontroller.

I am assuming a TVS diode should be placed across each relay output connected to each of the 24 VAC zone valves.

Can anyone offer advice regarding which type of protective diodes to purchase?

    Thank you

What version of OpenSprinkler are you using? Or this is your own hardware? OpenSprinkler has TVS diode on every zone.

This is my hardware and software. I was reading about OpenSprinkler and noticed that each zone uses a TVS. And I was wondering which TVS diode is being used.

    It uses SMBJ43CA.

Thank you Ray. That looks like a pretty inexpensive way to protect for the back EMF. It seems an axial equivalent is the P6KE51CA. I plan to buy 10 of those and put them across my valves.

    thanks again.
