Hello Ray,
since about 1 year now, the LCD screen on my (old, more than ten years) 2.3-AC controller does not display anything, whatever the light setting is ! It’s not a real problem as I use the Windows or Android apps to control the unit, but I wonder if I can replace it, either by a screen send by you, or by a screen found on any Internet site that you would recommand ?
Please let me know of (if) any possible solution !…

Before you change the LCD, the first thing is to check the Contrast and Backlight settings – these can be changed in Edit Options -> LCD. Because different firmwares have different default settings, which may not be optimal for your LCD, tweak these settings to see if they make any difference.
If you do have to change the LCD – it is an off-the-shelf part you can buy from Amazon or similar online stores. You should open the enclosure, remove the LCD from the circuit board, then check the LCD type. It is a widely available 16×2 character LCD, but depending on when you purchased the controller, it may have 16 pins, or 4 pins (the I2C type). You will need to buy one that exactly matches the type. If you are not sure, take a picture of the LCD and attach it here so we can help you check.

In my firmware, there is not any setting for Contrast, only Backlight setting is available, which has not any effect : whatever the position of this setting, the screen is always at the maximum of light, no character is readable !
I will open the enclosure when the weather will allow me, as the temperature is quite high here (North Greece) for the moment…

I come back to inform you that I just have changed the LCD on my unit (4 pins I2C type)., but unfortunately that did not change anything on the display : when pushing any side button, the LCD just show a maximum (blue) light, no character is readable !
I precise that the backlight setting (no contrast setting on my unit…) is set at its minimum value, but setting it at the maximum has no effect !
I suppose that another component is defective ?…
Any idea to what I can do ?

From the symptom I suspect the issue is still due to LCD contrast being set too high. I believe the I2C type of 16×2 LCD has a potentiometer on it which you can use to change the contrast setting. So check the back side of the LCD, see if there is a blue-colored square-shaped potentiometer. If so, try to adjust it with a screwdriver and see if it makes any difference. It’s probably difficult to do so while the controller is powered on. So what you should do is to power off the controller, make a small change to the POT, then power back on, and do a few times until the LCD characters start showing.
Yes, I was wondering what the (blue !) potentiometer is supposed to do : I will give a try tomorrow and let you know…
But what can explain the problem on the old LCD, nobody has touch the potentiometer during operation ?! Except if another component has deviated and the potentiometer can be used to compensate the deviation… Anyway, I will try on both LCD…

after trying to adjust the potentiometer on the back side of the LCD on both LCD (the original as well as the new one), nothing has changed, the display is still fully illuminated and no character can be read !
As I have noted that there is a CR 1220 battery installed on the back of the electronic board, and as it has never been changed, can it be a link with the display problem ?… Should I have already replaced it ? What is its purpose ?

For information, i have my unit since more than 11 years now, so the CR 1220 battery could be “down”…
The battery is for real-time clock, it’s not relevant to the LCD. I honestly don’t know what’s causing the problem. Is it just the LCD, or does the controller simply not work / not connecting to the network?
It’s just the display ! The controller connects to the network and works normally, no problem with the program, even the orders from IFTTT (Operation Inhibition/authorisation, starting a program, starting/stopping a station) are working well !…
I first suspected the LCD, but apparently it’s another cause…
