    I want my RPi to be used for general home automation with a few apps running and available for web control/configuration, hence not dedicated to just running the open sprinkler board. Can I locate the RPi and the open sprinkler board far apart? How long can the pin cables which connect the 2 devices?

    Sure, you can use a ribbon cable to connect a Pi (placed externally) to OSPi. I don’t have enough to tell how long the cable can run, but I assume a couple feet should be fine at least?
