Had the opensprinkler 1.42u working great for a couple of weeks. Noticed I couldn’t ping it anymore so went and took a look. Says “Connecting to network” now. I took it apart and examined it. Looked clean and brand new.
I then connected it to my laptop directly via an ethernet cable and my laptop still thinks the ethernet jack is unplugged so it looks like there’s something wrong with the ethernet side of the board. I’ve reflashed the 1.8.3 firmware and still no dice. Any idea why my laptop doesn’t even see it as an ethernet device anymore?
If you are connecting it directly to your laptop, I believe you need to use a cross-over cable. It’s similar to a standard Ethernet cable, but the pin connections are reversed.
In any case, if the LCD doesn’t ever go past ‘Connecting to the Network’ screen, it means there is a problem initializing the Ethernet controller. If it can go past that screen and display the time, then the problem is somewhere else.
