Systems seems to be up but zones not activated — any suggestions appreciated!

I’ve got an existing, working sprinkler system with an older style controller. want to switch it to my new opensprinkler pi. I’ve followed the various instructions, have everything installed, can run the software from web browser or mobile app and it *appears* to be running. But — it isn’t; the sprinkler zones aren’t activated. Moving back to my older controller — same exact wiring, sprinklers — it works. Any troubleshooting suggestions?

update to this — it was “user error” — studying the wiring diagrams more carefully I wasn’t connected to the correct location for the common wire. works like a charm now!
