If the os can now act as a true AP then this would allow me to remove my gli mini routers.

I am looking to order 5-10 new controllers at add on to my 30 already onsite. Some will replace older hardware 2.3. But I notice you are suggesting that these can now be used as an AP and I am looking for some clarification.

Is this a true AP or just Adhoc. Say I order new V3.4 AC with the hardwired lan, and hard wire the OS, will the wifi be usable as a true AP?

If you could respond ASAP as I am looking to place an order today. 5/1/2026.

Also, if I order them with the rj45, will I have a choice to use wifi instead or vice versa, or do I need to remove the rj45 model to use the wifi. If this is the case then this probably answer the first question.

Lastly, on the main opensprinkler site, can you add a link under support to go directly to the firmware?

They can function as true WiFi AP (i.e. they can function like WiFi hosts, so you can connect your phone to it without any other WiFi router and operate the controller that way). But, we’ve never tested it as *wired Ethernet host* – I don’t know if it can accepted a wired device as client – this is a rather unusual setup.

But you should be aware of some limitations of using it in WiFi AP mode:
– there is no Internet connection, so all weather-based services will not be available, for obvious reasons
– no ntp time sync, so controller time may start to drift a bit after, say weeks or months of use
– the WiFI AP is currently an open network, there is no WiFi password, which means anyone can connect to it. this can be easily improved in the firmware. It’s just that most people only use WiFi AP mode for setting up WiFi configuration, and don’t generally use the controller in AP mode.
