    Hi,

I have 3 OpenSprinkler Controllers that I use around my property. I was able to get IFTTT working and got my Makers Key but how can I differentiate the messages I send to slack based on the controller? For example I want the House controller to say House or Field or Garden in the message but am using a generic sprinkler that was given in the manual.

Is there another variable that I could use?

    Thanks,

    Jason

That’s an interesting question. We can probably improve the IFTTT notification to carry the device name so that you can distinguish between the different messages. In the mean time, I think one work-around you can use is to apply for three IFTTT accounts, one for each of the OPenSprinkler, and for each IFTTT setup you can customize the message so that you can tell which controller it’s sent from. The reason you need three IFTTT accounts is that each account gives you only one Maker key.

In the future, as I said, we should probably include the device name in the message; or alternatively, support custom ‘event’ names, so that you can associate each event name with a different controller.

I second this user request, I use two OS and need to get personalized messages from them.
    Thanks for the workaround.

I like the idea of custom event names. It would be great if, instead of just one event “sprinkler”, there were different configurable events for each event. Perhaps identifiable information can be passed in the “values” to IFTTT.
