Hi,
I know it’s an old thread, but I just finished building my OS v3.1, and of course I fell into this trap of burning a TRIAC. In my case, I wanted to see how the TRIAC opens, so I hooked up a 33 ohm resistor as load, instead of a solenoid, and first the PCA9555 blew. Somehow, the SDA line was shorted to ground. So, I removed it (while waiting for the new part to arrive), and just applied 5V to the PCA9555 side of the 390 ohm resistor of one zone. This time, the XL2001 power supply, as well as a TRIAC blew. Needless to say, it was NOT a 33 ohm resistor, but a .33 ohm one. 🙁 The dot was a bit smudged, or I just missed it… So, basically I short circuited the solenoid line.
I guess I will change the fuse to 1A or even less, I only want to run one zone at a time. I wish I stumbled upon this thread sooner. 😉
Cheers,
Miki.
