wyoneParticipantSo just thought I would fill you in. Still working on getting Ubuntu to work on my older system. Not sure why it won’t open.
On a positive side though. I have been able to make the webapp work on my desktop, laptop, Galaxy Nexus phone and HP Touchpad running Android 2.3.7 They all seem to work flawlessly. I have noticed the logging does not function completely, but it does tell me the last station that was watered and the details on that watering.
Again, thanks for all the great work you all have put in. I really appreciate it!
wyoneParticipantOK.. so the reason I was not able to log in properly was because my IP address was not what comes up when I do a what is my IP search. Not sure why. I did a port forwarding tester program and it showed a different IP. MUCH different.
Regardless… I am ONLINE!! This is VERY cool. I have tried it from several computers in the home and also from my Android phone and all seem to work perfectly!
I am still going to work on getting the linux box set up and working that way, but until then, this is AWESOME!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! This is the system.. hardware and software.. that I have been seeking for a long time!
You guys are all AWESOME!!
wyoneParticipantOk I can inject some input on this topic. I am a Master Electrician in multiple states for over 20 years. I have been in the electrical industry for almost 40 years.
The RIB is designed to be used as the pictures show. The only concern with using the low voltage wires extending through the boxes is the type of insulation on the wires. As long as the insulation on the low voltage wires matches the insulation on the high voltage wires it is perfectly acceptable to pass through the same box. In other words, the low voltage wires should have 600 volt insulation. The high voltage is not that high, but the National Electrical Code states that you must MATCH the HIGHEST RATING of the insulation, not the actual voltage.
Just my 2 cents worth.
wyoneParticipantWell so far I am still working on getting the Ubuntu to work, so I cannot really use the information pasted here. I will get it though! lol Although I am now wondering if I should be using the server version instead of the desktop version. I am really a graphical person, so I prefer the GUI, but after reading, I am not sure it will do what I want to do with open sprinkler. hmmmm
I did try to look at the new program you posted above and I guess I need to spend some more time. I am not sure if it is fully functional yet, but I cannot get into my sprinkler control with it. Maybe I need to try to do that when I am more awake. lol
Anyway, I REALLY REALLY want to thank you all for all of your efforts to make this awesome program. I will be donating soon to your efforts!

wyoneParticipantOk quick question.. off topic.. but related.. ready to convert my older XP computer to Linux Web Server and wanted to know if any of you had a favorite Linux…. was thinking Ubuntu desktop… will be using this for other things, but primary reason is to use the Mobile Web App for OpenSprinkler
Thanks in advance!
wyoneParticipantWell I can tell you guys know your stuff.. and enjoy the challenge of making it PERFECT. I am a lot the same way, but do not have the technical expertease you have. I do have an old XP computer that is basically not really being used for anything, so I am thinking, this might be the time to make the jump and learn some new things. I think I will be doing some research on how to build that this week. See you guys have inspired an old dog to learn new tricks. I am hoping it will go well! lol
And btw… my name is Mitch, I just use wyone as my typical login.
Thanks in advance for not only the ideas, but the inspiration to educate myself further!
wyoneParticipantwell I am anxious to use the mobile web app.. but I have to honestly say.. you people are talking like greek and on top of that I am deaf and can’t even HEAR the greek. lol.. I think you are way more technical than I understand. I was able to build the sprinkler control, and have it on my local network, but I have no clue how to do the things you are talking about. But I would LOVE to as the web interface looks AWESOME.
Anyway, thanks for all the interesting reading… lol.. I will wait for the 5th grade version though I guess. lol
