[New OS user; about to buy my first one]

I can’t seem to find the specification of how much power the 24V AC version of OS 3.0 actually draws. I’m considering using a Power-over-Ethernet splitter to furnish the 24V AC power, and need to know what the expected baseline and peak power draws are (presumably inrush while opening a valve…).

    Thanks

I’ve not used PoE but it has been discussed before. https://opensprinkler.com/forums/topic/opensprinkler-poe-edition/

The controller itself draws about 1 to 1.5 Watt power, excluding any active solenoid. So that’s about less than 100mA drawn from the 24VAC power adapter. Any activated solenoid will draw additional current, usually 500-ish mA for inrush and 250mA stable (holding) current.

    Great!

So an 802.3at splitter (delivering ~30W at 24V AC, about 1.2A) should be able to feed a single active valve just fine, right?

    Thanks

Yes, with a single active vale even 0.5 to 0.6A is sufficient, so 1.2A should be fine definitely.
