    Hi ipilcher,

How long is the Ethernet cable run? It would be interesting if you could install a small network switch so the patch cable to OS is kept to small distance to see if that helps. Sounds like induced voltages/cross talk.

Does the Ethernet link negotiate 1 gigabit speed when you say connect a laptop? (assuming gigabit switch gear)

I bought Opensprinkler last year with W5500 Ethernet module. I finally installed it last weekend and had several Controller lockups / crashes with wired Ethernet module. It was not usable!
The reason why I had so often those Controller lockups may be because I often accessed the Opensprinkler via App or web to configure and test it…don’t know.
After I found this thread I configured a new network on my opnsense on the unused interface igc3 and put the opensprinkler network cable directly in the network port (igc3) of my newly configured network. No more lockups for one day. Then I configured a VLAN on the opnsense and my switch, put the opensprinkler network cable on the untagged access port (with the right pvid) and a network cable from opnsense igc3 to a free port on the switch (tagged).
    Et voilà, no more lockups.
I’ll wait for some days to be shure, but this seems to really solve the issue with the (crapy?) W5500 Ethernet module…
by the way, my ethernet cable is about 10m…
