Great! Thanks for your continuing work. Since I won’t water my garden in winter, I’ll wait for others to test and for the final release.

Update still not possible via Ethernet? I get a blank screen after chosing file.

Hi Ray, thanks. Yes, I do use wired Ethernet. Sounds pretty strange, update can be done via WiFi and not wired LAN.
I also noticed, that in “About” the WLAN Strength is shown with wired LAN as “Excellent”. Any chance to have another line LAN showing if the connection is established via LAN? By the way: 2.1.9(7) run for my since installation without freezing.

I opened <ip>/update on OpenSprinkler 3.2 with Firmware 2.1.9(7) and only got a page with reason:2
Any idea why and on how to update?

Currently I’m online with Dark Sky again in OpenSprinkler according to the status page.
Anyways, it would be great to have a reliable weather service with the option to us ones own weather station.

I managed to have my Netatmo Weather Station send its data to my MQTT Broker so in my LAN I have its data.
Maybe I will just terminate watering by MQTT command to OpenSprinkler when my own station shows, it has rained or will soon.
Since I tried to get the data out of my Netatmo for quite some time and now finally managed to achieve it, I published its process on my website in English and German.

I use a OS 3.2 DC since April and had the lockup only twice so far. Today I couldn’t access it and even reboot of OS and router didn’t help. I have to go out, open the case and try to access it via WiFi tomorrow. Anyway, I created a support ticket for the W5500 adapter and would give it a try. The W5500 ships in Germany overnight from Amazon.

I found a really easy solution for this: http://plus.meteoware.com/netatmo/.
This web service acts as a translator between Netatmo and other weather services.

Thanks, Ray. Tough I can use the shell I like more to use GUI programs. The only component in the otherwise good working OpenSprinkler Updater 1.0.4 on macOS which is 32bit is the included avrdude. Replacing it with a 64bit version should be pretty easy. Not supporting 32bit programs is the biggest change on macOS since years, so this would be probably working for quite some time.

Okay, I’ve installet git and managed to finish B)
I have Python 2.7.1 installed and downloaded WeeWx to weather and unpacked it. Then I cd’ed into weather and run

    ./setup.py build

    and get the error:

    Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./setup.py", line 19, in <module> import configobj
    ImportError: No module named configobj

    Any idea?

Wow @Peter, that’s a great help to start and as a thank you I’ll bother you with stupid newbee questions 😉

I managed to finish the installation of node.js successfully which is v8 at this time.

I can’t install the weather service described in B) as my Synology doesn’t know the “git” command. Does this mean I have to install a git server on my Synology?

I have a Synology at home which already does some home automation jobs. I saw some hints about successful installations of WeewWX on Synology. Unfortunately I didn’t find a complete installation and configuration manual. When I bought my Netatmo with Rain Sensor I wanted to connect it to my OpenSprinkler to have reliable data from my own station. I understood that Netatmo stations can send data somehow to WeewMX and OpenSprinkler could access these.

Anyone with more infos on this?

Two years later I bought a Fitbi Versa which comes pretty close to what a Pebble would look like today. I wonder if the Pebble App was translated into a Fitbit App. Fitbit bought the Pebble team and I think the SDK is pretty much the same.

Thanks, Ray, for this info. So I now use OpenWeatherMap. If I could only submit my own temperature and (more important) rain data, my OpenSprinkler could work even more reliable.

I’m also using OS2.3 and would like to know if I can use OpenWeatherMap with Firmware 2.1.7 or have to wait for an update.
Can I use my Netatmo Weather Station with OpenWeatherMap? I bought my Netatmo station only because it was meant to support WeatherUnderground but it never fetched my station. So I would like to switch to OpenWeatherMap.

“Just” publish your weather data to wunderground.com where OpenSprinkler gets its information from.
The Netatmo stations are natively supported by wunderground and it should be more than easy to include yours:

Sounds good. I’m right back from vacation and in the last weeks my garden was watered by OpenSprinkler and mowed by Robomow. It’s never been more relaxing to return from vacation 🙂

As written, I don’t have any complaints or urgent feature requests so I was just curious about the upcoming features.

Please check on your router if the OS is connected and which IP address it got. Also the OS may faulty indicate that it has a correct IP address.
I had my router configured to always give my OS a specific IP address. When I reinstalled OS from its winter sleep it didn’t work. I found out after 2h search that another device was sitting on its IP and it couldn’t get it.

There are many possibilities. Try to check your router and then reduce the switches and access points in between if OS is not connected directly to your router. Can you still connect to your TP-Link?

If you’re a software guy you might just throw together a very simple web interface which can be controlled via tablet/smartphone or you use either a hacked Amazon Dash button or rebuilt something similar on your own. There are plenty of projects online for this kind of task.

    Hi @David,

Sorry for the long delay answering but I get no notifications from the OpenSprinkler Forums when someone answers.
My problem was caused by setting port 8080 like in the default URL in the Pebble app. I just deleted the :8080 at the end and it works now.

Too sad, Pebble development ended after Fitbit bought them. I hope Apple will improve battery life cause this is the only thing I don’t like on the Apple Watch.

I had quite some trouble getting a network access for my OpenSprinkler. The box is placed right under the surface and while the WiFi is just good enough at surface height its no longer reliable a few centimeters below. Then I wanted to use Power Line which sounds like a good idea as the OpenSprinkler has to be powered anyways (might be a nice option to be ordered in the future, eh?). Unfortunately when connected to the socket right besides my router it could connect. So I had to use a socket in the garage which is nearer to the outside placed Power Line adapter in the garden. I used a WiFi Bridge to connect the Power Line adapter in the garage.

I never thought it would be that hard to get a connection but you don’t install an ethernet cable in the garden “just in case”.

As I don’t use a SmartMirror but only an iPad I don’t need to rewrite my code. As mentioned it depends on some assumptions which will not fit everyone. But maybe some parts of the code are interesting if someone wants to write his own. If someone optimizes parts (which is definitely possible!) I’m happy to read about it.

I verified it a few days and it seems to work. My code will definitely not please structured oo programmers but it works and sometimes it’s easier to optimize things than create them in the first place. I also commented it so it should be readable somehow. This sprinkler status display is part of my infoscreen which runs on an iPad 1 in our house.

sprinkler.php creates the display and loads sprinkler_content.php periodically.
Due to my personal usage the script only shows three stations on two programs which run in the morning and evening. My stations run 1,2,3 in the morning and 1,2,3 in the evening. If you have more stations, you’ve got to add them to the code or query the api for the max number of stations and loop through. The same happens for the programs. If you have more than two programs you have to adapt the script.

I have setup a rain delay when the weather report indicates rain. The script queries the rain delay bit and changes the big image to one that shows a closed sprinkler with rain above. While running the small water drops in front of each station are animated and the remaining watering time is shown.

Of course you have to change the URL and the OpenSprinkler password in the beginning to reflect your home setup.

    Have fun!

Well, I have a PHP code that seems to work but want to test it first for some time.
Also the code might make a structured oo programmer’s head explode.
I’ll post it when I have tested it a little. Just wrote it until now.

    Currently looks like this:

    Hi @David,

Thanks for updating the Pebble App. I tried it again and got no “Check you internet connection” Error anymore.
Setting up the prefs I have a few questions:

    1. Is the Device Name important?
    2. Do I have to enter the :8080 at the end of the IP?
    3. Do I have to enter the md5_hash or the password into the pw field?

Currently I only get “Loading” on the Pebble’s screen after starting the app.
I’m using the v2.1.7 Firmware on my OpenSprinkler 2.3 DC.

If you run into trouble again with your hosting service just contact me. I run my website for about 20 years incl. SSL.
You have the settings page on an external server instead of the phone app itself? May I ask why?
