dun4cheapParticipantI am still seeing this problem. If press reload on the browser it comes up Fehrenheit. On my phone with the newest app it just stays celsius.
Please fix.
dun4cheapParticipantCan you try to clear the logs, then try to create a new program? I had a similar problem once and clearing the logs solved it.
dun4cheapParticipantUse the Opensprinkler DC model, it is DC but will power your 24V AC devices.
dun4cheapParticipantI am a property manager and manage a large 69 ACRE HOA that is 39 Acres of landscape. Very large lawns and park ways with over 500 single family properties that was built in the early 70’s. It is an open community that has 19 controllers ranging from 30-50 zones for irrigation and common area lights. When I started moving to open sprinkler hardware I had quite a few conversations via email with Ray. This was in the early stage of Hardware version 2.1. With the system it was my intent to create a wifi mesh with ubiquiti equipment not only for the open sprinkler controllers, but a surveillance system capable of monitor large areas spread out over 69 ACRES in a densely populated area. I originally started to design control software to actually handle the programming of the controllers and monitors, but then Samer joined with Ray and created a much better interface. With camera, wifi mesh and some training of my crew they are able to monitor the system onsite and offsite. I am also the network admin for another large HOA(900 condos/house/town home mix) that uses the very costly CalSense system. Which they deployed in limited areas and pay a monthly fee on top of this.
The controllers that we replaced were Rain Bird, Rain Dial brands. In the past we tried master valves, I have considered flow controller as well, but these items increase maintenance costs in my opinion and do not offer great amount of return benefit.
So I have 30 Ubiquity Radios that create my mesh. 21 Open Sprinkler controllers that control on average 30-50 zones. Each controller also control area lights. Over 300 area lights using the dusk to dawn capabilities of opensprinker. We currently have over 40 5MP Serveilance Cameras through the complex and pools that record live on 3 NVR’s
Maybe you should sell the big picture to them. One of the other things that we have had to do is do watering by the minute. My property is not flat and is full of sloped lawns, and street gutters with neighbors that like to report water run off to the city. While we have done water audits with the local water authority and they agree that we are applying all of the technologies to save water and doing our part, I have 39 ACREs of lawn that has slope and only top side drainage. So we water in 1 minute increments and repeat it 2, 3 , 4 times through the night to get the amount of water in to the soils while minimizing the run off.
The Bottom Line:
Weather Base Weakness: Unfortunately I really was hoping that this would be open sprinklers strong point but it just is not.
My controllers are spread out, so the older controllers would take a half a day to go and reprogram them. Now, my Landscape Supervisor can change them all in a matter of minutes from his phone, tablet, pc.
dun4cheapParticipantI have posted a ticket number 7463
dun4cheapParticipantRay,
I reboot one of my clocks that are not using the wunderground API and it is still not showing the forecast. The wunderground api unit is.

dun4cheapParticipantRay, can you respond to my post on the weather matter since I opened the threat. Maybe you can explain why I would see such a skewed difference.
Here is the ticket number on the OLED screen.
Ticket# 6510I received an email asking if I felt comfortable swapping screens. I had replied yes, but never received the replacement. I re-opened the ticket but it auto closed.
dun4cheapParticipantDan,
I will try to later. I run irrigation and dusk to dawn area lights on the same controller. So I have a program for Lights, set to dusk and dawn, and this station I have sequential mode turned off. So this program turns on and will be running while I have another program running my irrigation simultaneously. Then their are some master valve control features which I do not use. So If you you set 3 stations to non sequential. You could put 1 on a program to be on from 4 hours starting at 2am, and run a 2nd program in between that time, with mixed sequential and non sequential stations in the same bunch.
dun4cheapParticipantYes, you have the ability to set a station to run in sequential mode or not. So if you set station 1 and station 2 in non sequential. So if you then create a program to run station 1 and 2 for 10 minutes, they would start at the same time. You could also set on up as a master valve.
dun4cheapParticipantMaybe another bug.
I removed my weatherunderground api, and rebooted. I seem to not be able to get any weather updates. It tells me I need a weather underground key. Which I have, but I removed it to see if there was any difference. I did reboot the unit as well and reset my local. Any suggestions on what to try next.

dun4cheapParticipantSzaky,
There is most definitely a problem with using the usb port to power devices from the controller. When the 3.0 controller came out I was hesitant to move to it because it was only wifi. Please note I am running 20 OS units. Mix of 2.2-3.0 units all spread out over 69 acres connected to ubiquity equipment that require lan. In any event, in working with Ray, he suggested a mini ap to get interface with it and to power it from the controller. Well I was seeing random failures that were difficult to trouble shoot. It ended up being multiple problems, one the controller would reset while pulling the logs due to a memory issue and the uptime api being added to the FW. While trouble shooting, I moved the mini AP router on to its own power source thinking that it was pulling to much power from the controller. This did not resolve the OS problem, but it did resolve the random problem with the mini AP resetting. After the firmware update which resolved the OS reset problem, I put the ap back on to the controller power and the AP random reset came back, but the controller did not seem to be resetting. So for some reason the OS usb port does a power cycle or something and causes weird behavior. So I do not recommend using it. I never further troubleshoot this any further, and I have not seen any other issues since.

dun4cheapParticipantRay, hopefully the uptime is mow available and hopefully samer has updated the interface to show this. It will help trouble shoot problems, like resets or power failures.
Also, since I have quite a few of these spread out in the field, hopefully when I update them they don’t reset making me have to go to them.
May 23, 2018 at 9:08 pm in reply to: OS3 Reboots Randomly and eventually View logs fails and reboots. #50165
dun4cheapParticipantHow are you powering it up? VIA the usb or with the connector? Try to power it up both ways and see what happens.
May 23, 2018 at 7:36 pm in reply to: OS3 Reboots Randomly and eventually View logs fails and reboots. #50159
dun4cheapParticipantMarc2,
Have you tried factory resetting the unit like szaky did? This usually fixes the issue. But of course you need to re-setup the unit in adhoc mode. (Connecting directly to the OS3 unit via wifi and setting up the wifi again.)

dun4cheapParticipantI wanted to update the thread. Ray did reach out to me and I made my program and controllers available to him for diagnostics. I am now running a test fw fix which appears to have corrected the reset issues. This firmware has been running now for 3 days, so when I hit the 1 to 2 weeks mark then I will mark this a success. Ray and Samer thanks for that. Also thanks for adding the up time variable. I know your thoughts was to put this in the about box, but maybe it can be put just under the weather info on the main page so its something in plain site for immediate diagnostics. Hopefully Samer can get to this sooner than later as it would have certainly helped in diagnosing this problems and may give an early indicator for other problems in the future.

dun4cheapParticipantSamer,
Thanks for responding. I have yet to hear from Ray. I sent him and email the other day as well. Looks like he is not interested. It may just be best to RMA the 15 OS3 and 30 expansions kits and go with the 2.3’s. I was hoping we could find a fix for the 3’s. Have you heard back from Ray at all?
Thanks,
Ed
November 7, 2017 at 1:24 pm in reply to: OS3 Reboots Randomly and eventually View logs fails and reboots. #48224
dun4cheapParticipantJust when I though I was in the clear all OS3 units are resetting. My 2.3 and below units are not. The two in my office with nothing connecting are resetting and the one in the field.
Ray and Samer, there is definitely an issue here that needs to be addressed. Please post here. Ray you have my cell number please contact me. Hopefully a firmware can fix the problem, but it needs to be addressed.
Thanks,
Ed

dun4cheapParticipantI think I am close to narrowing the problems down. My field unit has not reset all week. Ever since I stopped powering the nano Router from the usb port of the OP3. I was able to reproduce it on my bench as well without any load on it other than the nano router. Once it gets to the point where it resets every time you try to access the log, the only way to fix it is to factory reset the controller.
With that said, since I have pulled the nano router off from the OP this has not happened. Which is good news, I can work with this. I do suspect that this behavior is triggered under certain conditions and it seems to revolve around writing to the sd card and having a power source running on the controller. I have not troubleshooted as to whether its any device powered by the controller from the usb port or not at this point.
Hopefully this will help others and I am not sure if this can be resolved with a firmware update or not. But I believe it can be avoided.
November 1, 2017 at 1:06 pm in reply to: OS3 Reboots Randomly and eventually View logs fails and reboots. #48185
dun4cheapParticipantMike,
Thanks for chiming in. I have pulled my nano router off the controllers usb port. (Ray had suggested that I power them from the OS 3 usb port. I was not a big fan of wifi only). It is now powered separately but from the same power source. The router maintains an up time and does not show a loss of service. When I had it plugged in to the controller it would reset as well.
My setups are unique as I use ubiquity Line of site radios in the field to supply internet to these units. I have over 15 of the 2.3-2.1 units deployed without issue. This is the first 3.0 that I have deployed with the same setups and it has been a problem. I have done my best trying to isolate the issue. I found another thread where someone reported rebooting but it was on a 2.3 DC unit. Which I have one of those and it appears to be working without issue.
As a backup I am also using a Levington smart switch as a fall over now so my lights stay on, but I 30 irrigation stations that are being disruptive.
Once it get to a point where I can no longer view the logs, I have to reset to defaults and reprogram. Once this is done the rebooting appears to only happen at night when the lights are on and possibly when the stations are running.
It is frustrating but I am trying to solve the problem and come up with proper diagnosing steps to be able to quickly resolve issues in the future.
November 1, 2017 at 11:53 am in reply to: OS3 Reboots Randomly and eventually View logs fails and reboots. #48183
dun4cheapParticipantI continue to struggle with this. Sadly the controller offers no real trouble shooting help. The log is not available. When the controller reboots there is no info on its up time. I have looked at the api and I did not see a variable logging the controllers start up time, as this may be helpful.
I have changed out relays, controllers, I may try swapping the expansion units.

dun4cheapParticipantOne last thing, yes CA has eased up currently on the water restrictions, how ever, water restrictions WILL BE BACK, so we should not discount this so the firmware, programming should keep this in mind.
Thanks,
Ed
September 14, 2016 at 10:46 am in reply to: Release date OS FW 2.1.6 (3) or 2.1.7 ? How to update to the current git ver? #44065
dun4cheapParticipantRay,
I appreciate that, but the weather check should still commence more frequent and regardless if a program is running and here is why.
I use the last station on my controllers to run area lights from dusk to dawn. I usually run my irrigation programs during the night. So if my lights come on at 6PM and do not shut off until the following morning at 7 AM, there will be no weather calls for that period of time. So PLEASE, PLEASE fix this in the mainstream firmware. Also, I would prefer that we either have the option in the firmware to set the weather check increments either before a program starts or by being able to set the time, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc.
If you recall we had sent email correspondence back and fourth on the specific line in the code I changed to do the weather check regardless if a program was running. I changed that and its been working great. Please, change this otherwise using the controller to run dusk to dawn lawn lights and control irrigation valves will not work together. I am sure you can see this.
Thanks,
Ed
dun4cheapParticipantI am using the Airmax, Nanostation Locos and Rockets. Typically the 5ghz units. I have used them as AP-Repeater, Stations and AP’s. The longest range I am using right now is 1.5 miles apart in one application. There are different ways you can configure them.
September 9, 2016 at 11:05 am in reply to: Release date OS FW 2.1.6 (3) or 2.1.7 ? How to update to the current git ver? #44017
dun4cheapParticipantRey or Samer,
Can you confirm that the problem with the water percentage being set to 0% and never being reset has been fixed and also that the weather check happens more frequently and before a station starts even if you have say a lights on running already. I am running my own firmware with a single line changed that I had presented to Ray quite some time ago. I was under the impression it was going to be changed but I wanted to confirm this before I look to update my controllers.
Thanks,
dun4cheapParticipantYou may want to look in to the ubiquity equipment. I manage a large HOA that is about 69 Acres. We are using the opensprinkler devices to control our lights and irrigation and security cameras. I have slowly been building a wifi mesh usiung ubiquity radios that have LOS of 7KM. Believe it or not these devices are about $60 each and they have worked very reliably even in a dense areas.
