In a similar situation I’ve managed to squeeze in a flexible USB A-to-B adapter USBAF-USBBM-F found at http://www.vpi.us/usb-gender-flex.html, check it out. Still beats me why OS is using such an outdated connector.

    Samer,

You’ve mentioned a Firefox extension; is it a plug-in or add-on of some kind? I couldn’t find anything, could you please point me to some info?

    Thank you!

Old-UI style firmware allowed an option with everything (not just js-files, but all images as well) to be kept locally on SD card. Does this option still exist with the recent firmware? I’m aware that weather adjustments are cloud-based, is there anything else that would prevent my OS to run locally?

    Thank you!

I don’t think it has anything to do with valves. When the power is switched off, it looks like OS sends a split-second impulse to all lines, making valves jolt which in turn sends “seismic wave” along water pipes. Again, when power goes off, no sprinkler valve is open (as oppose to your suggestion about “the way they close”).

I remember having multiple problems with TP-link router; it was its DHCP server function that wouldn’t turn off no matter what. Here’s what I finally did:

    1. Log to your TP-link router and update it to the latest firmware.
    2. Connect your laptop to it directly – turn your laptop’s WiFi off and connect via cable. Release/renew ipconfig
    3. Check TP-Link IP address and point browser to it; go to administration/configuration screen.
    4. Before switching it to the “WiFi client mode”, disable DHCP. This is important, because DHCP options are disabled in the client more but DHCP stays on.
    5. Switch TP-Link to the client mode and configure it.
    6. Plug OS back to TP-link.
    7. If you are using static IP address on OS, it should work now, however, mine is configured to use dynamic IP, so the following steps required:
    8. On your Asus router, go to Lan->DHCP server – IP reservation
    9. Add your OS mac address (most likely it’s 00:69:69:2D:30:00) and assign whatever IP you like
    10. Make sure port forwarding works

Most important thing was disabling TP-Link’s DHCP in the client mode. In my case. TP-Link is so unreliable and messy, I’m considering replacing it with power-line network adapter – after all, the power outlet is right there.

If your router supports guest network, you could temporarily enable it with the old Network ID and password, and then switch TP Link to the new credentials. And yes, the Client mode is what should be set on.

    Perfect!

Salbahra, thank you! Everything works now in local mode.

I’ve just noticed that all scripts still refer to remote images (as in http://rayshobby.net/images/icons/svc_*) and not the local files. I assumed the local distribution should contain the entire fileset and should not have any dependency on Internet-located files. It’s not a big deal, but are there plans to have _all_ files, including icons, in the local package?

    Thank you!

The only use case I could think of when seconds are required is for misting. It seems that 15 seconds minimum fractions should suffice.

    Thank you Salbahra,

I’m going to keep 2.07 for a while since 2.08 is officially not recommended. I was hoping 2.0.9 and subsequent releases would allow the old UI style.

Too bad you’ve decided to discontinue the original UI; in my experience, it was 10x better, even when used with my phone, not just desktop. Is there any way (SD card?) to keep the old UI around?

(If you care about “why”, the mobile design takes way more steps to perform the same task and has too many layers. In my experience, it’s heavy and over-engineered.)

May I ask here for an option to store rain delay and watering level in EPROM to carry it over power cycle in the future firmware?

    Thank you,

I do believe rain delay should be stored in the EPROM, since rain and power interruption often related 🙂

Something is wrong with the latest update. I have a Synology server without git install, so it’s a vanilla setup. I’m using all the old settings but now I’m greeted with a pop-up telling me to check the IP address and port of the timer (which are specified correctly, I’ve checked multiple times) on the “new install” page.

    Thank you,

    Hi,

Haven’t been following the updates for a week – HUGE progress, congrats on a great app.

A few comments, if you don’t mind.

    1. (Found the switch, please ignore this one) I’m concerned with automatic rain delay. Is there a way to switch it off? In California, they declare a rain (and a state of emergency) when they able to count both raindrops. Besides, Yahoo shows extremely inaccurate weather anyway (like right now, it say it’s 75F outside with actual heatwave at ~90F).
    2. There is no “back” button in rain delay page nor browser history updated so browser back button doesn’t work either (Firefox). The only way to get back is to click “cancel” or “submit” which is different from the rest of navigation.
    3. Program Preview – (wow! I can only imagine the effort. Thank you!) – the zoom control overlaps with the program in the right lower corner. If I may suggest, it could be moved to the table’s header, upper-left corner.
    4. Unused stations. I have a few, and while OpenSprinkler API doesn’t give you that information, it would be nice to have an ability to mark some stations as “unused” and hide them. Just a thought.

Again – great app and thank you for your hard work!
    Cheers,
    Oasiz37.

    Hi,

Since you’re done with bug fixes, how about a feature request? 🙂

    1. Could you please update the log so it’ll provide the program information? The OpenSprinkler does say what caused the last station to operate (e.g. it knows the difference between the scheduled program and a run-once command).
    2. The page title says “Open Sprinkler” (or whatever’s configured during the install) on the main page only. It would be nice to have it on all pages, i.e. “Open Sprinkler: Logs” instead of “Logs”. Helps when you have lots of tabs open in a browser in desktop mode.

    Thank you!

Good news: I was waiting for the today’s schedule to verify the log; it looks like HDD hibernation is not impacted by the cron job, at least for my Synology model.

    Thank you!

The programs are loading correctly now, I can confirm the issue’s been fixed.

Would it be possible to change interval to show hours and minute as oppose to minutes only? It shows 240 minutes instead of 4 hours 0 minutes, I find the latter to be more convenient.

    Thank you.

I have 16 stations and they split in a way that first 8 pertain to the front yard while the latter used in the back; I don’t, however have all 8 stations used per each controller. The unused stations retain their default names, e.g. S07, S15

They programmed, for instance (I removed actual station names for simplicity)

    P1: Tue,Fri -> 07:05 – 07:40 , Every 0 hrs 20 mins for 5 min, stations: S01, S02, S09, S10
P2: Mon Tue Wed Thur Fri Sat Sun (Even days only), Time: 07:50 – 10:00 , Every 4 hrs 0 mins for 9 min, stations: S03, S11, S13.

Your app reports the same as:
    P1: Tue,Fri ->07:05 – 07:40 , Every 0 hrs 20 mins for 5 min, stations: S01, S02, S03, S04
P2: Mon Tue Wed Thur Fri Sat Sun (Even days only), Time: 07:50 – 10:00 , Every 240 mins for 9 min, stations: S01, S04, S06

    I’ve highlighted the errors.

Edit: it’s a regular OpenSprinkler controler, not PI. 1 extension board, firmware 2.0 beta

I hear what you saying about the server caching hibernated drives, it’ll take some time to confirm.

Another issue I have to report – “view/change programs” gets programs information totally wrong. Zone 1 is shown active in every program, unused stations shown as having schedule, etc.

    Program preview works correctly.

    Thank you.

My only concern here is that calling php module every minute will prevent hard drives from hibernating (which is not only power saving option but will greatly affect HDD life span). Is there an option to query watcher.php from a timer script in main.php? This way the watcher will be invoked only when the application is in use.

I’ll check tonight whether Synology goes into HDD hibernation with your modules executed by cron. If not, it will be an issue.

    Thank you,
    Oasiz37.
